May 25, 2023 Luncheon Participation
Luncheon attendance was 29 which included 4 new members (*), all participants locally located in Montreal area. It was a nice gathering from 11 AM to 3 PM. The restaurant chosen had a private room which permitted a quiet, enjoyable interaction. The restaurant service and menu selection were good. Most likely, we will book the same facility for our fall luncheon. Opportunity missed to see old acquaintances and newer aerospace members after 3year Luncheon lapse due to Covid-19! We hope more members and guests will attend our fall luncheon.

Luncheon Notice for May 25, 2023
There seems to be less interest for aging members to attend our planned luncheons. We also find it difficult to find reasonably priced facilities with private room. We hope the facility we have chosen will prove enjoyable. We hope you accept the menu on the premise that the get-to-gether is the primary motive to support the Club and meal is secondary. We would like to reiterate one member’s thoughts about the gathering:
“I still believe a more casual approach rather than a 3 course sit down lunch is better. Or at least should be tried to get SPARtan things going again. Buffet or light food available plus scattered chairs enabling circulation etc. People come and go as they wish. Or once per year the latter and once per year the sit-down lunch. Sit down lunches cost more and are logistically difficult for restaurants requiring numerous experienced serving and kitchen staff to get the job done without delays and so on. My feeling is...get things started soon and it doesn't really matter much exactly how. "The Old Normal" may return but better not wait for it.”
We appreciate that some menus are not suitable to some members or lengthy get-to-gether difficult, however as an alternative please drop in, only for the socializing period 11:30 to 1 pm.
April 18 Email Luncheon Notice sent to Co-Located members/Guests
Greetings Spartan Members,
The Spartan luncheon has been set for Thursday, May 25th, from 11:30AM to 4:00PM in a private room at Restaurant Shing Kee, previously known as Mr. Spicy, and the same West Island restaurant as was previously planned for our last October luncheon. Please note that from 11:30AM to 1:00PM will be leisurely circulation, at 1:00PM attendees should be seated to permit menu orders to be taken.
Recent attendance at the restaurant confirmed no changes to the menu or prices relative to the previous Mr. Spicy. This restaurant serves Cantonese and Szechuan Cuisine, offering a good choice of food and is endorsed by some Spartan Members. The cost for the noon menu is under $20.00 (taxes & 15% gratuity included), with bring your own wine. You can check the restaurant/location/menu online at: Restaurant Shing Kee in Pointe Claire. It is co-located near the airport at 1701 Boul. Des Sources, Pointe Claire with easy access and lots of free parking spaces.
We would appreciate your response no later than April 30th as to tentative attendance/no attendance. Your response is required as several of last October luncheon notifications were directed to SPAM. We are obligated to confirm the head count by May 15th.
We invite members to bring their companions and indicate the same to us in order to confirm the head count.
The noon menu is attached. Your advance selection, which could help the Chef with advance planning and quicker service, would be appreciated. Select from L1 to L10, which soup, and which rice you would want.
